In the heart of Maremma lies
Grosseto, city of ancient medieval origins.
Grosseto’s history becomes with Aldobrandeschi ;
thanks to this ancient family the city join its
best power. After, came Siena’s domination, and
then, the Medici’s transform the city in a fortress.
In the end, Lorena Family, with drainages, restore
to health the land of Maremma.
The
visit starts from the historical centre, enclosed
inside the hexagonal Medicean walls, with the roman-
gothic Dome, that contains numerous works of art,
for example the venerated “Madonna delle Grazie”
of Matteo di Giovanni, and two splendid glass walls
of the Renaissance, the most interesting monument
of the city.
Very interesting are also the ancient cloister of
S. Francesco with the valuable Crucifix attributed
to Duccio di Buoninsegna, and the Quarter- deck
of Siena, inside the Medicean walls of 500, that
ended their defensive function, have became a good
place for a “green walk”.
Beautiful
to visit are also the Archaeological and of Art
of Maremma Museum and the Sacred Art of Grosseto
Diocese Museum.
Near
to Grosseto there is the Natural Park of Maremma,
better known as “Parco dell’Uccellina”, where still
today herds of wild horses and oxes of Maremma graze
in the large fields, and in the underbrush of Uccellina
Mountain live undisturbed wild boars and roebucks.
Inside the Park, we can find not only unpolluted
nature, but also numerous signs of man’s presence.
Some caves, like that of “Scoglietto”, has also
most recent tracks ( Bronze and Roman Age) but were
inhabited in the prehistory to. Indeed towards Talomone
and along Aurelia there are Etruscan r (Poggio Raso)
and Roman rests (Santa Francesca, Le Frasche).
At
few Kilometres there is also Marina di Grosseto.
Every year, in the summer, a lots of inhabitants
of Grosseto, Siena, Arezzo, Florence Rome and of
many others cities, go in this pleasant locality,
yesterday village of fishermen, today famous seaside
resort.
